Overview

Strategy Consultant Intern- Corporate Strategy

 

As a member of the Corporate Strategy Team the Strategy Consultant Intern will be focused on supporting the Strategy team and business partners in the ongoing development and execution of the Company’s strategy.

Responsibilities

The Strategy Consultant Intern will assist this department with a variety of responsibilities including but not limited to:

  • Utilizes the Company’s strategic planning methodology to support in the development of functional strategies.
  • Analyzes data, gathering insights and modeling various scenarios quantitatively.
  • Interacts with team members and Leaders in support of Southwest’s vision “To be the World’s Most Flown, Most Loved, and Most Profitable Airline”.
  • Provides research & impact analysis on important strategic topics including competitive strategy and disruptive trends.
  • The Intern may also be requested to perform other job duties as requested.

Qualifications

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required. 

Must be at least 18 years of age

Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.

 

EDUCATION:

Candidates must be currently enrolled in a fulltime Bachelor’s  or Master's Degree program with a Major/Minor in Industrial Engineering, Finance, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Operations Research, Business or related degree program.

 

Minimum of Junior level by hours (60+) at the start of the internship

 

Maintained 3.0 or above cumulative GPA

 

SKILLS/ABILITIES/KNOWLEDGE/WORK STYLE:

Strong communication and influencing skills are required, including the ability to interact directly with the Senior Leadership team.

Must have strong problem solving skills, including the ability to gather facts, conduct analysis, and translate data into meaningful insights.

Must have the ability to think across multiple time horizons, connecting the “big picture” and the “now”.

Experience working as a strategy consultant in a university organization/club or internship is preferred.

Must have the ability to quickly learn about new business areas to identify and resolve issues quickly.

Must have the ability to properly manage highly sensitive and confidential information.

Experience working with quantitative analysis and data modeling is preferred.

Experience in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel) is required.

Experience in developing and delivering presentations is required.

Experience with quantitative tools (e.g., SQL, VBA, Excel, SAS) is preferred.

Experience working and problem solving with cross-functional teams is preferred.

Previous experience with an internship in a related position within the last 12 months is preferred.

 

Location and Pay:

 

Pay of $15.00 per hour + flight privileges

 

This position is located in Dallas, Texas at the Southwest Airlines Headquarters.
