Coordinates the scheduling and planning of fuel supply chain management and operations, conducts spend and market analysis to coordinate supply chain strategy development.



  • Leads complex negotiations with suppliers utilizing strong background in fundamental sourcing skills and experience
  • Expert in performing difficult analysis, interpreting results, and providing effective recommendations

FIM Team

  • Serves in a Leadership role and as subject matter expert in the industry by participating in airline fuel consortia as a representative of Southwest Airlines and at times in an executive capacity, continuously seeking to improve consortia model
  • Develop and drive strategy to effectively manage on and off-airport storage facilities, maintenance and operations (M&O) and into-plane service providers

  • Acts as commodity and industry subject matter expert; supports internal and external Customers through sharing expertise
  • Acts prudently concerning all aspects of fuel supply chain performance, including quality, safety and security of supply
  • Reads cues from various individuals  to assess when and how to change the planned communication approach to effectively deliver messages

Supply Chain Optimization

  • Develops strategy and decision-making process for their areas of responsibility and drives overall fuel strategy development
  • Finds ways to continuously improve performance and processes;  actively engages others
  • Works to minimize negative impact of fuel disruptions by coordinating across FSCM and externally to achieve resolution; implements processes to eliminate preventable supply disruptions

Supplier Management

  • Uses cost analysis and communication skills to develop comprehensive presentations utilizing appropriate technology to effectively persuade internal/external stakeholders at all levels
  • Drives supplier business reviews, scorecard development and performance management and mentors others  to do the same
  • Uses expertise in fuel supply chain (and industry) and mutually beneficial relationships to execute agreements that are in the best interest of SWA

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.


  • Degree in Finance, Supply Chain Management, Business or equivalent experience required  


  • At least five years experience in either supply chain management, fuel accounting, fuel purchasing, fuel operations, or fuel quality required
  • Experience in strategic sourcing initiatives preferred
  • Contract management experience preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of general accounting principles and SOX requirements required
  • Expert analytical skills required
