Responsibilities

Description:

The Security teams support the daily operation through: ensuring system-wide regulatory compliance, protecting the physical wellbeing of our Employees, protecting the company brand and assets, and serving as the first point of contact for regulatory related questions from Southwest Employees.

 

If selected, you will work full time supporting the following three (3) teams:

 

Federal Airport Security

The Federal Airport Security team is responsible for ensuring company-wide compliance with all Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and Custom and Border Protection (CBP) regulatory requirements. We work with many different work groups within Southwest as well as with TSA and CBP at both a local (station) and headquarters (Washington, DC) level.

 

Corporate Security

The Corporate Security Team is charged to protect the brand and assets of Southwest Airlines. This Team has wide-ranging responsibilities such as protection of employees traveling abroad to conducting investigations into matters such as fraud, harassment, theft, and establishing procedures for crisis events such as active shooter scenarios.

 

Network Operations Control (NOC)

The NOC Team is comprised of Safety & Security representatives who provide regulatory best practices in regards to safety and security situations that arise within the operations of our Network Operations Control center. Members of this Team serve as tactical liaisons between the operations, the Safety & Security Department, and outside regulatory agencies such as TSA, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Operational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

 

Duties & Responsibilities

Intern duties might include but are not limited to:

  • Conducting station visits (requires travel)
  • Reading and interpreting federal regulations
  • Technical writing
  • Responding to Letters of Investigation from both TSA and CBP
  • Attending meetings as appropriate
  • Participating on investigations
  • Statement gathering
  • Document preparation
  • Interviewing
  • Data collection and analysis
  • Interaction with Law Enforcement (federal, state, local and tribal)
  • Preparing and participating in presentations
  • Must adhere to all Southwest Airlines corporate policies including the protection and security of confidential and proprietary information
  • Must adhere to all Federal laws regarding the protection of sensitive security information
  • Must be able to work independently and as a Team

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be a US citizen
  • US Passport preferred

Education

  • Must have accumulated enough credits to be a college Junior
  • Must currently be enrolled as a full time student (minimum of 12 credit hours)
  • Maintain a 2.75 or above GPA
  • Coursework in Homeland Security, Aviation, Aeronautics, Criminal Justice, Crisis Management or a related field is preferred

Experience/Skills/Knowledge

  • Aviation related job experience is preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required
  • Technical writing experience preferred
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Knowledge of social media platforms
  • Participating in trade/industry organizations, community involvement, and /or school clubs preferred
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills

Full-time/40 hours per week

 

PAY:

 

$15.00 per hour + flight privileges
