Responsibilities

The Operational Strategy & Performance Department is tasked with the responsibility of monitoring, reporting, forecasting and analyzing operational performance of Southwest Airlines and providing clear understanding of Reliability, Productivity, Hospitality and Cost. Additionally, this Department provides strategic vision and project support for initiatives that directly impact the operational performance of the Company.

 

The Simulation & Forecasting Team is responsible improving the operational performance of our network through thought leadership utilizing measurement, prediction and planning.

We focus on building tools and processes to help the company predict future operational performance of flight schedules. This is accomplished through simulation, forecasting, measurement and prediction.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Application of data analytics, statistics and predictive modeling in order to understand operational impacts of proposed business decisions
  • Assist in development of monthly ontime performance forecast
  • Learn and run scenarios in the current schedule simulation model
  • Create visualizations of data outputs using tools such as Excel or Tableau
  • Communicate findings or recommendations to audiences with minimal understanding

Qualifications

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

 

 

High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required. 

 

Must be at least 18 years of age

 

Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986

 

EDUCATION:

 

Major/Minor in Business, Engineering, Computer Science, Data Analytics/Data Science, or Operations Research

 

Coursework Required: Data Analytics/Statistics

 

Minimum Junior level

 

To be eligible must be currently enrolled as a full time student (minimum 12 credit hours)

 

Maintained 2.75 or above cumulative GPA

 

SKILLS/ABILITIES/KNOWLEDGE/WORK STYLE:

  • Strong use of PowerPoint and Excel required (Pivot Tables, Modeling, etc.)
  • Strong communication skills
  • Experience using some of the following tools: SQL, Terdata/MySQL, @Risk, R, SAS, SPSS, MATLAB preferred

PAY:

 

$15.00 hourly + flight privileges
