Responsibilities

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The Facilities Department is responsible for the planning, designing, and constructing facilities utilized by Southwest Airlines. Typical projects include development of airport facilities (including new cities), Reservations Centers, Maintenance Hangars, Crew Bases, and Provisioning Bases, as well as renovating and expanding existing facilities system-wide.

 

The Data Analyst Team is responsible for evaluating the impact of current and future schedules of the 90+ airport facilities.  Additionally, they support the Planning Team and any internal/external Customer requests.

 

The Data Analyst Intern will assist this Department with a variety of responsibilities including, but not limited to:

  • The establishment of an automation of reporting processes
  • Travel to collect data and verifying field information
  • Extracting schedules based off of Network Planning
  • Continuous Improvement projects

 

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

 

High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required.

 

Must be at least 18 years of age.

 

To be eligible, one must be currently enrolled as a full-time student at time of application (minimum of 12 credit hours).

 

Minimum of Junior level by hours (60+) at the start of the internship.

 

Minimum of a 2.75 or above cumulative GPA.

 

Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.

 

Education:

 

Progress towards degree in Business Intelligence, Statistics, Economics, Finance, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Industrial Engineering, Aviation Management, or related degree.

 

Skills:

  • Strong database management skills preferred (Access, SQL, or similar)
  • Strong Excel skills preferred (VBA, Pivot Tables, Vlookup, Regressions, etc.)
  • Basic understanding of root cause, risk analysis, and/or trend analysis preferred
  • Experience using Tableau is preferred
  • An Analyst related internship within the past 12 months preferred
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and complete assignments with tight deadlines
  • Problem solving ability with strong written/verbal communication skills
  • Self-starter, critical thinker, and innovator of ideas that could lower cost and increase value for Southwest Airlines
  • Ability to work independently and willingness to function as part of a Team
